The Magic lantern chiller is a densely packaged, high efficient Ethylene Glycol and Water chiller, currently fielded on the Kaman SH-2G Super Seasprite helicopter platform. The chiller provides thermal conditioning for the Magic Lantern laser mine detection system.
The chiller operating with 400hz, 3 phase AC power, is lightweight and utilizes high efficiency refrigerant compressor with established reliability in similar airborne/military platforms. The chiller maintains stable temperature control of supply fluid within the range of 75 degrees F and 90 degrees F.
High efficient positive displacement pump provides 2.0 GPM of minimum fluid flow over the entire operating environment. Quick disconnects are provided for interface connections to the payload and the chiller mounting configuration provides for efficient installation and removal.
Low profile packaging minimizes helicopter floor space usage. The chiller can easily adapted to other military ground and airborne applications requiring electronic/laser thermal conditioning and temperature control.
